CJI Bench expresses frustration over conduct of virtual hearing through mobile phones

  • On Monday, an Apex Court bench led by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana expressed displeasure with lawyers who appeared for virtual sessions via their mobile phones.

  • The Supreme Court bench stated that ten cases had to be deferred for the day because the Judges were unable to hear or see attorneys who appeared via their mobile phones. Justice Hima Kohli, who was also on the bench, stated that the judges lacked the enthusiasm to hear cases in this manner.

  • "Lawyers are appearing from their mobile phones & are not visible. We may have to ban this mobile business...Mr counsel, you are now practicing in the Supreme Court & appear regularly. Can't you afford to have a desktop to argue?" - SC
