Civil Aspirants who have exhausted their attempts to be given no extra chance: Centre tells SC

  • On Friday the Supreme Court of India was notified by the Centre that candidates who have exhausted all their attempts to appear for the Civil Service examination on October 2020 will not be given an extra chance.

  • The Union Public Service Commission restricts the number of attempts per candidate. General Category candidates are limited to 6 attempts till the age of 32, OBC Category candidates are limited to 9 attempts till the age of 35 and SC/ST Category candidates are limited to 9 attempts till the age of 37.

  • The petitioners claimed that many candidates were unable to appear for UPSE CSE Prelims 2020 due to the challenges imposed by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and thus plead for an extra chance.

  • On 30th September the Centre and the UPSC were ordered by the Supreme Court to take into consideration granting an extra chance to candidates who have their last attempt in 2020, along with an extension of the upper age limit.
