China launches bullet train near Arunachal Pradesh

  • In a major contentious development China has launched its first Bullet train in Himalayan Region of Tibet connecting the provincial capital Lhasa and Nyingchi, a strategically located Tibetan border town close to Indian State of Arunachal Pradesh.

  • The railway line of 435 km long has been inaugurated ahead of the hundredth year anniversary of Communist Party of China.

  • The first electrified railway in Tibet Autonomous Region opened Friday.

  • Notably The Sichuan-Tibet Railway will be the second railway into Tibet after the Qinghai-Tibet Railway. It will go through the southeast of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, one of the world's most geologically active areas.

  • The project will no doubt have significant ramifications for Indo-China border relations
