China gives assent to building dam on Brahmaputra river
In a major development the National People’s Congress has adopted the 14th five-year plan, the Mega blue print containing the country’s strategy for 2021 to 2025. Moreover it also contains national economic and social development and long range objectives through the year 2035.
The assembly has adopted the controversial hydro power project on Brahmaputra River in Tibet close to Arunachal Pradesh. The region of Andhra Pradesh in India has been a zone of conflict between the two countries.
As a lower riparian state India has objected to China’s activities and has said that it should make sure that the interests of downstream states aren’t undermined.
