Chennai gets its first Dalit mayor

• 28-year-old MCom student Priya Ranjan has been elected as Chennai’s first Dalit mayor of the Greater Chennai Corporation unopposed.

• The oath of the office was administered to Ranjan by Gagandeep Singh, Corporation Commissioner.

• The ceremonial mace was handed over to Ranjan by DMK cabinet minister P.K. Sekar Babu and M.A. Subramanian.
