  • Amid the raging coronavirus pandemic international organizations have come to play a formidable role in containing the spread of the virus.

  • The UNGA presidential elections which were scheduled for this month concluded on Monday to elect the President of the 76th General assembly

  • According to the rule of regional rotation this years president was to be elected from the Asia-Pacific group.

  • Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid was on Monday elected as President of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, garnering 143 votes out of the 191 ballots cast.

  • The voiting takes place through secret ballot and requires only a simple majority. India's Permanent Mission at UN also tweeted congratulating Maldives for the victory.
