The UNGA presidential elections which were scheduled for this month concluded on Monday to elect the President of the 76th General assembly
According to the rule of regional rotation this years president was to be elected from the Asia-Pacific group.
Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid was on Monday elected as President of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, garnering 143 votes out of the 191 ballots cast.
The voiting takes place through secret ballot and requires only a simple majority. India's Permanent Mission at UN also tweeted congratulating Maldives for the victory.
