Check out India's only representative at Beijing Olympics
A Winter Olympics being organised amid a diplomatic boycott announced by ver 10 countries, Beijing has come under criticism for its actions in the Xinjiang region and alleged violation of human rights. However, still the economic giant has responded blatantly to the concerns of boycotting nations
India which announced a last-minute diplomatic boycott has only a single representative this year. Mohd Arif Khan, a professional skier hailing from Kashmir is the sole representative of India
Notably, Arif Khan has qualified for both the Slalom and Giant Slalom category of skiing
Slalom is shorter of the two events however it is more technical since it requires the athlete to work more on his skills, rather than speed due to the small size of the gates
Giant slalom on the other hand combines the technical aspect of slalom with the speed of downhill skiing events
Arif Khan said that finishing in the Top 30 would mean a lot to him. Struggling through paucity of funds for training, Khan's best performance has been the 45th rank in World Championship
