Centre's Tax Collections On Petrol & Diesel Jumped 300% In Modi's Reign

  • On Monday the Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur informed the Lok Sabha while giving a written reply to a question, that the Government of India collected tax worth ₹2.94 lakh crores in the first 10 months of the Financial Year 2020-21.

  • In 2014-15 when Mr. Modi became the Prime Minister of India, the government collected ₹29,279 crores from excise duty on petrol and ₹42,881 crores on diesel.

  • Considering the excise duty on Natural Gas, the government collected the total tax worth ₹74,158 crores on diesel and petrol in 2014-15 which has increased to ₹2.95 lakh crores in 2020-21. If we draw a comparison between the two amounts, the increase is almost equal to 300%.
