Centre ready to rename Rajpath. Read what the new name will be
What: The Government of India has decided to rename historic Rajpath and central vista lawns in New Delhi as 'Kartavya Path'.
Opposition response: TMC MP Mahua Moitra lashed out saying, "What is going on? Has BJP made it their sole kartavya to re-do our culture, our heritage in their megalomaniac madness to re-write history?". RJD's Manoj Jha stated, "First Race Course Road became Lok Kalyan Marg...now Rajpath became Kartavya Path. But today's biggest challenges like unemployment, inflation/deteriorating social harmony if it has a positive effect then everything is acceptable".
Background: Rajpath was formerly known as Kingsway. It is the celebrated venue of the Republic Day parade every year and stretches through Vijay Chowk to India Gate.
