Centre bans single use-plastic from 2022
The Centre has banned single-use platun beginning July of 2022.
In a gazette notification released by the Environment Ministry on Thursday, it states that these items also include- cutlery, earbuds and ice cream sticks.
With this order, the manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale and use of single use plastic will be prohibited with effect from 1st July 2022.
Polythene bags with thickness less than 50 microns have already been banned in the country.
The ban however will not be applicable to commodities made with compostable plastic.
For banning the use of the listed plastic commodities, in a special consideration of industries, the government has given them 10 years from date of notification for compliance.
