Centre bans single use-plastic from 2022

• The Centre has banned single-use platun beginning July of 2022.

• In a gazette notification released by the Environment Ministry on Thursday, it states that these items also include- cutlery, earbuds and ice cream sticks.

• With this order, the manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale and use of single use plastic will be prohibited with effect from 1st July 2022.

• Polythene bags with thickness less than 50 microns have already been banned in the country.

• The ban however will not be applicable to commodities made with compostable plastic.

• For banning the use of the listed plastic commodities, in a special consideration of industries, the government has given them 10 years from date of notification for compliance.
