What: The Kerala Fibre Optic Network received the Internet Service Provider(ISP) license from Department of Telecommunications making Kerala the first and only state in the country to have its own internet service.
About: K-Fon is a state government initiative that aims to eliminate the digital gap in the state. It is based on the principle of “non-discriminatory” treatment, which means that no service provider or business segment receives preferential treatment, as recommended by TRAI.
Aim: To provide internet services to around 30,000 government offices in the state. Internet connection to 14,009 BPL families with the government subsidising the cost.
