CDS Bipin Rawat Demise: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh orders Tri-Services Inquiry

  • The whole Nation bereaved the demise of CDS Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat and 11 others who succumbed to a fatal IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter crash on Wednesday. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the gathering at the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha while expressing grief over the crash.

  • With profound grief and heavy heart, I stand to convey the unfortunate news of the crash of the military helicopter in the noon of 8 December 2021, with India’s first Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat onboard", Singh said.

  • A tri-service inquiry regarding the same would be initiated by the Indian Air Force and is to be headed by Air Marshal Manvendra Singh, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief Training Command.

  • A two ‘minutes’ silence was observed in both the houses for the departed. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh updated both the houses on the unfortunate event, alongside informing the status of the lone survivor, Group Captain Varun Singh dangling on a life support.

  • The black box of the chopper was exhumed on Thursday evening.
