CCI fines Maruti Suzuki for violation of competition norms

  • On Monday, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) fined India's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki of ₹200 crores, for violating competition norms.

  • Maruti Suzuki has been fined for maintaining a discount control policy that prevented its dealers from providing further discounts.

  • If the dealers wanted to give additional discounts to their customers, then they would have to compulsorily seek prior approval from the company.

  • The CCI found this discount control policy to be anti-competitive and therefore fined the company.
