CBI raids IAS officer's home, 40 other locations in J&K gun license scam

  • The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today raided 40 different locations across Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi, including the residence senior J&K IAS officer Shahid Iqbal Choudhary in Srinagar, in lieu of the selling of illegal gun license scam.

  • At least eight former Deputy Commissioners are being investigated by the central agency to unleash the scam.

  • It has been reported that since 2012, nearly 12 lakh gun licenses have been illegally issued in the in J&K region- which makes it the country's gun license racket.

  • Last year two officials, including IAS officer Rajiv Ranjan, were arrested by the CBI. Mr Ranjan and Itrat Hussain Rafiqui, during their tenures as Deputy Commissioner of Kupwara district, allegedly illegally issued several such licences.
