Calcutta HC directs State to provide SOP for cattle trade

  • In the case of M/s Pioneer Live Stock v. State of West Bengal and Ors., a Calcutta High Court bench led by Justice Rajasekhar Mantha has ordered the state to develop Standard Operating Procedures for Cattle Trade. The Court ordered this so that fair cattle trade could be ensured and a procedure could be established to manage smooth cattle trade, particularly between West Bengal and the northeastern states.

  • In this case, the Petitioner was harmed by the conduct of police officers who interfered with his business of transferring livestock from West Bengal to Meghalaya. The petitioner's truck was halted and he was not permitted to go, and the authorities took his animals.
