Byju's Acquire Aakash Institute For $1 Billion

  • On Monday, India's most-valued ed-tech startup Byju’s acquired Aakash Institute for almost $1 Billion.

  • Aakash Institute is one of India's leading education providing company and owns over 186 tuition centers across India.

  • The deal has been struck between the two companies for $960Mn in the form of cash and stock.

  • The Blackstone Group and Aakash institute will own a minor stake in the startup at an evaluation of $13Bn.

  • “We will integrate Aakash’s expertise in test prep with our content and tech capabilities and will invest further capital into Aakash once the integration is done,” Byju's founder Byju Raveendran informed The Economic Times.

  • “We will continue to expand the offline footprint and Aakash will be the front end of all our test prep initiatives,” Raveendran said.

  • In August 2020, the ed-tech startup also acquired Whitehat Jr. for $300Mn.
