The Election Commission of India on Thursday announced the schedule for the elections to the Rajya Sabha for 5 states and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
In the cases of the states, the polling will constitute by-polls for the seat of the Member of Parliament (MP) where the previous MP either resigned or in the case of Maharashtra, MP Rajeev Satav passed away in May.
As per the schedule announced by the poll panel, votes for all five states and Puducherry will be cast on October 4. The counting of votes will take place on the same day.
In the case of Puducherry, the term of MP N Gokulakrishnan, who represents the Ut in the Council of States, therefore, elections were necessitated.
