The Union Cabinet on Tuesday cleared a bill to merge the three municipal corporations of Delhi. The bill is soon likely to be introduced in the Parliament as well.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on the other hand is criticising the move by stating that the unification of three MCDs could have been done long back and that it is simply a ploy to delay the pending elections of MCD.
The national capital has five local bodies namely the North, East and South Delhi municipal corporations, the Delhi Cantonment Board and the New Delhi Municipal Council. The BJP had proposed to unify the three bodies of North, East and South Delhi corporations, which cover the majority area.
