BREAKING: Supreme Court Keeps In Abeyance Sedition Law Till Review

  • What: In a big decision, the Supreme Court on Wednesday stated that the Centre and the states should refrain from registering any cases under the charge of sedition till the time it is being observed by the top Court.

  • Why:"All pending cases, appeals and proceedings with respect to charges framed for sedition should be kept in abeyance," the Supreme court said.

  • What next: If any fresh cases are filed. Concerned parties may approach Court and request to expeditiously dispose off the same, the bench stated.

  • Additional facts: There are over 800 cases of sedition filed across India. As many as 13,000 people are in jail, stated Kapil Sibal who appeared for the petitioners.
