BREAKING: Covishield vaccine gets Emergency approval

  • In a major development for India, the vaccine being administered by the Serum Institute of India (SII)- Covishield gets Emergency Use Approval by a Government-appointed panel.

  • Following this, the vaccine will be sent for a clearance and a final approval by the Drug Controller General of India (DGCI).

  • The Covishield vaccine has been developed by the Oxford Institute and pharma giant AstraZenca and is being manufactured by the Serum Institute in India.

  • The Covaxin vaccine developed by the Bharat BioTech in collaboration with the ICMR also delivered a presentation before the panel on Wednesday. Pfizer on the other hand, has sought more time.
