Bombay HC expresses concerns over 'media trials'

  • On Friday, the Bombay High Court raised reservations about the absence of legislation on electronics and advised the Central Government to take effective steps to regulate the question of media trials.

  • A bench consisting of Chief Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice G S Kulkarni wondered why there was no statutory electronic media regulatory agency, such as the Indian Press Council, which regulates printed media.

  • While hearing a batch of Public Interest Litigation(PIL) petitions seeking to control "media trial" in the case involving the death of Bollywood star Sushant Singh Rajput, the bench made important oral remarks.
