[Bollywood Case] Delhi HC asks news channels to make sure no defamatory content is displayed
News channels such as Republic TV and Times Now were directed today by the Delhi High Court to ensure that no defamatory material against Bollywood celebrities is shown on their channels or posted on their social media accounts.
The Court was hearing the complaint brought against Republic TV and Times Now by 38 Bollywood production houses over sensationalised coverage of the case of Sushant Singh Rajput, which saw the television outlets making accusations of drug dealing against various Bollywood celebrities.
Justice Rajiv Shakdher reported the promises made by the media houses during the hearing today that they must abide by the Program Code under the Laws of Cable Television Networks.
The plaintiffs asked the Court to allow the defendant-media houses to be prohibited from carrying out defamatory reports in the interim as the hearing came to a close.
The Court of Justice gave a note of the case and posted it on 14 December for further hearing.
