BJP's Biplab Deb gets a Rajya Sabha seat

  • What: Four months after his out of the blue resignation as the CM of Tripura, BJP today nominated Biplab Deb as the candidate for the by-election of a seat from Tripura. The election is scheduled for September 12.

  • Another development: Interestingly, this announcement came hours after he was declared party in-charge for Haryana.

  • Why: The state’s lone Upper House seat had fallen vacant after Rajya Sabha MP Manik Saha replaced Deb as the state's CM.
