BJP's Assam Manifesto promises to work on 'corrected' NRC

  1. In it's manifesto for the upcoming Assam polls, released on Tuesday, the BJP promised the implementation of a 'corrected' National Register of Citizens, if it came to power.

  2. While releasing the 'Sankalpa Patra' in Guhawati, Assam, BJP national President JP Nadda stated that the party aims at implementing a corrected NRC to protect the citizens of Assam. He stated that they will identify the illegal residents and protect genuine citizens so that Assam can remain Assam's.

  3. The final NRC in Assam, published on August 31, 2019, excluded 19 lakh people and was taken to be full of wrongful exclusions and inclusions. Therefore, the Sarbananda Sonowal led current BJP government refused to accept it in it's current form.

  4. Along with this the party has porposed a host of other promises including aiming at women empowerment, free education for students and bicycles to those in class 8 and above, the state's self-sufficiency in food products and rights for indegeneious people.
