BJP becomes the single largest party in RS with 92 MPs

  • The Bhartiya janta party (BJP) saw an increase in its number of Member of Parliament (MP) in Rajya Sabha. After Monday’s unopposed election of its eight members from Uttar Pradesh , one from Uttarakhand.

  • The total strength of BJP which is the largest party in the upper house now stands at 92 MPs, though it is still short of the majority mark of 123.

  • The opposition has been losing the ground in Rajya Sabha. The congress is now down to 38 MPs, its lowest ever tally. Congress also lost one seat from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand with the retirement of senior leaders P.L Punia and Raj Babbar.
