Bill Cosby freed from prison as sexual assault case overturned by US court

  • Bill Cosby was released from prison and returned home on Wednesday, less than two hours after Pennsylvania's highest court overturned his sexual assault conviction, ruling that he should never have been prosecuted after striking a non-prosecution agreement with a previous district attorney more than 15 years ago.

  • Following Cosby's 2018 conviction, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court announced a divided judgment after he had spent more than two years of a three- to 10-year sentence.

  • A prisons department spokeswoman said Cosby, 83, was freed from a state prison in Shippack, Pennsylvania, shortly before 2:30 p.m. (1830 GMT).
