Bihar CM Nitish Kumar announces Rs 20,000 crore solar light scheme

  • With the state panchayat polls just three months away, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has invited tenders for installing 10 solar lights each in over 8,300 panchayats and 143 urban bodies.

  • The Scheme will be executed at a cost of more than rs 20,000 crores.

  • The opposition party, Rashtriya Janata Dal, has questioned the scheme since the previous solar light scheme in the state was marred with serious corruption charges against panchayat heads/mukhiyas.

  • The RJD spokesperson said they would also write to the Election Commission of India to hold a technical bidding process for the scheme.
