On Monday, Union Minister Krishan Pal informed the parliament that the Government of India has no plans to reduce import duties on electric vehicles (EVs).
He also informed that the government is continuously taking steps to promote EVs in India like reducing domestic taxes and setting up charging stations across the whole country.
A few weeks ago, Tesla CEO Elon Musk appealed to the government to reduce import duties on electric vehicles as the prices will drastically rise once they are imported into the country and sold in the Indian markets.
In follow-on tweets, Elon Musk also suggested opening Tesla's automobile factory in India once they observe the response to their vehicles.
For the past few years, Elon Musk has been eager to enter the promising Indian market.
“No such proposal is under consideration in Ministry of Heavy Industries,” Union Minister said in the parliament on Monday.
