Bengal Poll officer sleeps at TMC leader's home with EVMs; suspended by EC
A Bengal poll officer, reportedly slept overnight with an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), at his relative's place, who happens to be a candidate of the Trinamool Congress and is contesting in the ongoing Bengal elections.
The Election Commission has suspended the above stated election officer and has also passed orders against using the particular EVM and VVPAT in polling.
Tapan Sarkar, the deputed officer for Howrah's Sector 17 in AC 177 Uluberia Uttar, had taken along with him a reserve EVM to his politician-relative's home. The EC has stated that charges of major punishment will be imposed on the officer. Charges will also be imposed on the police officials with the poll officer.
"This is a gross violation of Election Commission of India's instructions for which the Sector Officer has been suspended and charges will be framed for major punishment," the EC stated in it's statement.
