Belarus sprinter granted Polish visa after refusing to fly home

• Belarus sprinter Krystina Timanovskaya is currently at the Polish embassy taking refuge after she spent the night in a hotel under protection of the Japanese Police.

• In a video, Krystina stated that she had forcibly taken to the airport to fly back home after she criticized her coaches.

• Krystina’s husband is said to have fled Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital and hopes to join her in Poland.

• Marcin Przydacz, Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister stated that Ms. Timanovskaya is in direct contact with the Polish diplomats in Tokyo. He further stated that Poland would do whatever would be necessary to help her continue her career as an athlete.

• While Belarus is yet to comment on Poland’s decision, the EU welcomed the decision taken by Poland.
