Basvaraj Bommai to be the new CM of Karntaka

  • On Tuesday evening, Basvaraj Bommai was chosen as the next Chief Minister of Karnataka after former senior CM BS Yediyurappa resigned from the post on July 26.

  • Bommaj was previously the Home Minister in BS Yediyurappa's government, which lasted for an approximate two years.

  • Bommaj is an MLA from the Shiggoan constituency in central Karnataka and also belongs to the Lingyat community of the region, which have the allegiance to Basaveshwara, the 12th century founder of the community.

  • Before joining the BJP, he was with the Janata Dal United, defecting, along with 22 others JDU functionaries.
