Ban on cow slaughter and beef products in Lakshadweep proposed by Centre
In the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, the Central government is considering a full ban on the slaughter of cows, calves, bulls, and bullocks, with a maximum sentence of life imprisonment if the prohibition is violated.
The proposed legislation also aims to restrict the selling, storing or transport of beef or beef items in any manner.
To that end, the draft of the Lakshadweep Animal Protection Law, 2021 has been made public and is open to public consultation.
