Bail Granted to the son of BJP Union minister in Lakhimpur Kheri Case revoked by SC

  • In the Lakhimpur Kheri case, the Supreme Court on Monday revoked the bail granted to Ashish Mishra, the son of Bharatiya Janata Party Union minister Ajay Mishra.

  • On October 3, 2021, Mishra's cavalcade ploughed through a farmers' demonstration, killing eight persons, including four protesting farmers.

  • The court also stated that the Allahabad high court's bail order defied precedent.

  • On February 10, the opening day of the seven-phased Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, Mishra was granted bail by the high court.

  • The bail given to Ashish was criticized by opposition parties, farmers' organizations, and human rights advocates, who claimed he was being protected because of his close relations with the BJP.
