As India battles the second wave of Coronavirus, another challenge came at the hands of the government as it will have to respond to a devastating earthquake in Assam.
The Earthquake measured 6.4 on the Richter Scale. The earthquake originated in Tezpur of Assam and tremors were felt even in North Bengal and other parts of the Northeast.
Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal said, "Big earthquake hits Assam. I pray for the well-being of all and urge everyone to stay alert. Taking updates from all districts."
PM Modi also spoke to Assam CM in order to take stock of the situation. Moreover North East Region of India is a earthquake prone area due to the frequent Tectonic activity between the Indian and Eurasian Plates in the north and subduction tectonics along the Indo-Myanmar range (IMR) in the east.
