Ashamed’, ‘Corrupt’, ‘Incompetent’ among others, now Unparliamentary words

• What: A new booklet released by the Lok Sabha Secretariat in advance of the Parliament's Monsoon Session beginning on July 18 lists the words that have been deemed unparliamentary. These words include ashamed, abused, betrayed, corrupt, drama, hypocrisy, and incompetent. At least 40 unparliamentary words and expressions that would be omitted if used are included in the booklet.The final say in removing terms and expressions, however, shall belong to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

• When: The list was released on 14th July 2022.

• Opposition reaction: The opposition slammed the government for outlawing all the terms they use to criticize the current Government and questioned ‘is truth unparliamentary?’
