Arunachal Pradesh: Remove mention of ‘Beef’ from signboards

What: Authorities in Naharlagun, sub division of Arunachal Pradesh have issued an order directing owners of hotels and restaurants to remove the word ‘Beef’ from signboards by July 18 failing which a fine of Rs 2000 would be imposed and cancel their trade licenses.

Grounds: The order was issued by Extra Assistant Commissioner, Tamo Dada, stating that it believes in the secular spirit of constitution but ‘open display’ of the word ‘beef’ on signboards may hurt sentiments of some sections of community and may create animosity between different groups of community.

Extent: “However hotels and restaurants can continue to serve beef but without displaying the word” an official said.
