Apex court stays the order to demolish the decommissioned INS Viraat Aircraft

  • On Wednesday the supreme court of India passed the order to status quo on the demolition of decommissioned INS, Viraat aircraft.

  • The three - judges bench of CJI (Chief Justice of India) S.A Bobde, Justice AS Bopanna and Justice V Rama Subramanian have passed the order on the plea filed by Enviteach Marine Consultant private limited (EMCPL).

  • The INS Viraat Indian Navy Aircraft was sold to Shree Ram Shipbreakers last year in an auction for ₹ 65 crores and now the representative company is ready to offer ₹ 100 crores for the ship.

  • Earlier Bombay High court was looking into this plea and has passed the order to the Ministry of Defence to carefully look into this matter.

  • However, then EMCPL has sought the plea in the Apex court.
