On Saturday, the Supreme Court of India allows the poll body to decide Uttar Pradesh poll counting.
After looking at the massive COVID-19 surges the Apex court has asked the State Election commission to conduct poll counting under the surveillance of CCTV footage of all counting centres.
However, the SC said " Despite the critical pandemic situation in the state, election counting can be postponed for two weeks after improvement in situation. Despite all the odds the state government wants to proceed with counting".
UP EC argued " the decision of poll counting has already been made". The court added "If anything goes wrong in counting the state EC will be responsible".
