Anti-apartheid African hero passes away at 90

• Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Archbishop Desmond tutu, who is recognized for his role in ending apartheid in South Africa passed away at the age of 90.

• President Cyril Ramaphosa stated that his death marks “another chapter of bereavement in our nation’s farewell to a generation of outstanding South Africans.”

• Desmond Tutu was a contemporary of another famous anti-apartheid icon, Nelson Mandela. • It has been said that Desmond Tutu was the driving force behind the movement to put an end to the racial policy of segregation and discrimination which was forced upon the black majority from 1948 to 1991 in South Africa.
