Another surprise for Congress; Navjot Sidhu quits as Punjab Chief

  • In a surprising move for the Punjab unit of Congress, Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned from the post.

  • In a letter addressed to Sonia Gandhi, which Sidhu later shared on social media, he stated "The collapse of a man's character stems from the compromise corner. I can never compromise on Punjab's future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab. Therefore, I hereby resign as the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. I will continue to serve the Congress."

  • The resignation comes months before the Punjab election and has given a huge blow to the Congress party.

  • This move also comes as the new CM Channi, who was seen close to Sidhu, had been making changes to the Cabinet, that were not liked and approved of by Navjot Sidhu.
