The Annual State of Education Report (ASER) survey was conducted in the month of September by the NGO Pratham, which marked six months since the closure of the schools amidst the pandemic. The report states the following points-
About 20% of rural children have no textbooks at home. In the state of Andhra Pradesh, less than 35% children had textbooks, 60% in Rajasthan. On the contrary 98% had textbooks in West Bengal, Nagaland and Assam.
5.3% of rural children between the ages of 6-10 years are not enrolled in school this year, as compared to only 1.8% not enrolled in 2018.
Although smartphone ownership had almost doubled since 2018, still a third of children with smartphones do not have access to learning materials.
About 70% of rural children did some kind of learning activity and only 11% of had online classes.
