Anger motivated conversations cannot come under the ambit of Abetment to Suicide, says MP High Court

  • A single-judge bench of the Madhya Pradesh high court has ruled that words spoken in frustration cannot be considered abetment to suicide, and has ordered the case against a woman to be dismissed.

  • After the guy with whom she had a suspected extramarital affair killed himself, the complainant Kamrunisha contested a case filed against her under IPC 306 (abetment to suicide).

  • She was allegedly forcing her paramour to marry her, according to police. She reportedly threatened to file a FIR against him and his family if he agreed to marry her on January 17, 2020, when she went to stay with him in his home. She left after his family members interfered, but on January 26 of the following year, she returned to his house and reportedly repeated the attack.

  • On January 28, 2020, the man committed suicide, and police filed a FIR against her. Kamrunisha appealed to the Supreme Court.
