Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has written to Chief Justice of India SA Bobde, alleging that Justice NV Ramana who is next in line to be the CJI (according to seniority) “has been influencing the sittings of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh including the roster of a few Honourable Judges.”
The 8 page letter is dated October 6, but was released to the media in Hyderabad on October 10 evening by Ajeya Kallam, the Principal Advisor to the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister.
The letter refers to Justice Ramana’s “proximity” to TDP leaders and the former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, and an Anti-Corruption Bureau investigation into “questionable transactions of land” involving daughters of Justice Ramana and others in Amaravati.
YS Jagan has mentioned “instances of how matters important to Telugu Desam Party have been allocated to a few Honourable Judges.”
The Chief Minister urged the CJI to “consider initiating such steps as may be considered fit and proper, to ensure that the State judiciary’s neutrality is maintained”.
