On Wednesday, April 27, the Supreme Court chastised Tamil Nadu governor R.N. Ravi for referring A.G. Perarivalan's remission petition to the President.
Perarivalan is one of seven people convicted in the killing of Rajiv Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India.
Ravi had referred the petition to the President, claiming that he had the appropriate authority to make a decision on the subject, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
In 1991, Perarivalan was convicted to death for his role in Gandhi's assassination plot.
