Ahmedabad bans roadside non-vegetarian food stalls

  • The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) in Gujarat on Monday imposed a ban on food stalls selling non-vegetarian food alongside public roads.

  • The ban will be imposed starting Tuesday. Senior town planning official Devang Dani stated that the people of the city were complaining about it and therefore, a decision was taken in a meeting of the committee.

  • The official announced that, "Stalls selling non-vegetarian items will not be allowed along public roads and in the 100-meter radius of schools, colleges and religious places, Town Planning Committee of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has decided."

  • In response to the ban, Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel stated that people are free to eat whatever they want. The decision was simply keeping in mind that food being sold at stalls should not be harmful and 'should not obstruct traffic flow'.
