Afghan parents sell baby girl for $500 to feed the family

• A family in a village outside of Herat sold her baby daughter for $500 to feed the rest of her family.

• The buyer is said to have been an unnamed man who paid $250 upfront and will pay the rest when he comes to collect the baby when she can walk.

• The man said that he wanted to raise the girl to marry his son, but his intentions are not guaranteed.

• The mother of the baby stated, “My other children were dying of hunger, so we had to sell my daughter. How can I not be sad? She is my child. I wish I didn’t have to sell my daughter.
