Afghan baby lost during Kabul airport chaos reunited with relatives

• The video of an infant baby being handed over to an American soldier across the wall of Kabul airport while trying to flee Afghanistan as it fell to the Taliban had gone viral.

• The boy’s parents and siblings were evacuated to the United States, unknown of their infant’s whereabouts.

• After numerous efforts, the baby was located in Kabul with a man named Hamid Safi. Safi stated that he had found the baby in the airport and had taken him to raise as his own.

• Safi was detained by Taliban police briefly and it was only after seven weeks of pleas and negotiations that Safi finally handed the child back to his grandfather and other relative still residing in Kabul.

• The family has stated that they will not seek to have the boy reunited with his parents in the United States.
