Advocate says criticism of court doesn't amount to contempt

• On Friday Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi stated the criticism of the Court does not amount to contempt of Court. Rohatgi was appearing in the court on the behalf of cartoonist Rachita Taneja for her tweets against the judiciary.

• Rohatgi also added that the Judicial foundation of the country is so strong that it cannot fall due to mere criticism.

• The plea seeking initiation of contempt of court proceedings against Taneja was heard by a three-judge Bench comprising Justice Ashok Bhushan, Justice R. Subhash Reddy and Justice M.R. Shah. The plea was filed by a law student.

• A show-cause notice has been issued to the cartoonist by the court with a direction to file a reply within 6 weeks. The Court stated that no reply has been filed by Taneja or on her behalf.

• Rohatgi was seen requesting the court to keep this matter separate from that of Kunal Kamra’s.
