About the all-black climbers’ team set to scale Mt. Everest

• The Full Circle Expedition team, consisting of nine black climbers, is attempting to scale Mt. Everest to tackle the mt’s ‘intentional lack of access for black people’ and mountaineering’s ‘colonial history’.

• The team has been described as ‘the first all-black and brown expedition to the highest place of earth’ by climbing leaders Fred Campbell.

• 58-year-old Philip Henderson, team leader, stated that he is the only black person often in any of his mountaineering groups and therefore created the project.

• The team has gained sponsorship from outdoor apparel companies such as MSR Gear, Thermarest, Ramble Camp and The North Face.
