A Billion doses! Check out India's vaccination journey

  • India officially vaccinated its citizen with a billion doses and became the second country after China to achieve the milestone. Notably, only India and China will be part of the Billion dose club due to their billion-plus population

  • “India scripts history. We are witnessing the triumph of Indian science, enterprise and collective spirit of 130 crore Indians. Congrats India on crossing 100 crore vaccinations. Gratitude to our doctors, nurses and all those who worked to achieve this feat,” PM Modi tweeted.

  • It took India only 281 days to reach the milestone however it took 20 years to vaccinate 1 billion people against polio.

  • On the other hand, in terms of double vaccinated individuals, the percentage of the population is only 20.55 per cent, much below countries like Nepal and Pakistan. However remarkably rural India accounts for 65% of coverage even as many feared vaccine hesitancy in rural areas due to low literacy rates
